Cole Vows Bold Leadership for District 2. Seeks to Continue the Fight for Ohioans at the Statehouse
Michael D. Cole, a three-time elected member of the Columbus City Schools Board of Education, today announced his candidacy for State Representative in Ohio House District 2. Cole will compete in the Spring primary election scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Early voting will begin on April 7th and continue through May 4th.
“I am running for State Representative because working families, seniors, and children in House District 2 deserve steady, experienced leadership that understands both policy and people,” Cole said. “Our district needs a representative who will protect taxpayers, strengthen public schools, expand access to healthcare, and create pathways to long-term prosperity.”
Cole brings more than two decades of experience in public affairs, mass media, policy development, and community engagement. With over 12 years of service on the Columbus City Schools Board of Education, he chaired the Finance Committee, guided responsible budgeting decisions, and advocated to restore fair school funding and expand support for students with learning and physical disabilities. Most recently, Cole lobbied the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to stop the increase in energy costs by millions of dollars on Columbus taxpayers. From Ohio’s Capital City to the nation’s Capitol Hill, Cole has consistently championed education policy reforms that fought to protect children, families, and taxpayers.
The Count on Cole campaign platform is grounded in four priorities aligned with O-H-I-O:
- O — Older Ohioans: Capping property taxes for limited-income senior residents, helping them remain secure in their homes and communities.
- H — Healthcare: Expanding affordable healthcare options for families and children while protecting essential services for seniors.
- I — Investment: Restoring funding and fixing transportation in public schools, and expanding adult career and technical education programs that prepare Ohioans for in-demand careers.
- O — Opportunity: Protecting wages for workers and removing unnecessary barriers that hinder small businesses, ensuring fair opportunities for success between employers and employees.
Throughout his public service, Cole has emphasized fiscal responsibility, transparency, and equity—ensuring taxpayer dollars are managed wisely while strengthening the systems that serve working families.
“My campaign is about delivering solutions that make working Ohioans smarter, healthier, and wealthier,” Cole said.
